French Style Kitchen Makeover: Before and After

I am excited to share with you one of our recent projects where we had dual project goals.  Our client was inspired by her travels in France and wanted a French Modern theme.  We also wanted to keep of any existing cabinetry possible to try and reduce waste and save a bit on renovation costs.

You can see from the before photo that we had beautiful high-end cabinetry, but it felt dark and dated.  We also wanted to change the layout a bit and add an extra dishwasher.

To create a classic, timeless aesthetic, we combined several finishes and textures that all play together perfectly. We kept walnut stain on the lower cabinets with updated door fronts while painting the upper cabinets in a French blue-gray. The hand thrown back splash tiles from Walker Zanger are what gives this space a personality punch. I love these tiles so much!

We used Roman Clay on our custom crafted vent hood and this matte artisanal texture is just perfect here. Don’t miss that amazing chandelier too! Don’t you think this is a beautiful alternative to the standard pendants?

Our homeowner is an art and antique collector, so we loved curating the antique bread boards and displaying vintage art within the kitchen. I think it just makes the space a bit more cozy. Sometimes kitchens can feel cold and hard edged. These little styling tricks keep it warm and personal.

To finish it all off, we created a custom banquette with a vertical channeled back. The windows behind it go lower than the back, but it feels very natural and is the perfect spot to perch for breakfast. It also does double duty when the couple entertains and needs a few intimate areas for conversation.

We love how it all came together! What do you all think is your favorite part?
